Arnold Schwarzenegger

Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger on Chiropractic:

“Chiropractic is about health and fitness and there is such a strong relationship between the two. This is why I’m so excited to have the chiropractors here from all over the world each year, because you represent exactly the same thing. Chiropractic is about health and fitness. Chiropractic is about natural, preventive health care. It can help families be healthier and also spend time together doing something important to all their lives. What we’re trying to do is not just promote the sport of bodybuilding, but fitness and health. Fitness, for us, is everything in a naturally healthy lifestyle. So that’s why it is so great for us to work together.”

Arnold, as well as many former and present athletes realize that chiropractic can help them increase performance and maintain good health. The nervous system controls and coordinates all body function. Chiropractors work by removing interference to the nervous system thus allowing the body to function at its maximum potential. Athletes understand that even the slightest advantage in ability can make the difference in competition.

BRANCHBURG — Taking care of our bodies is akin to taking care of a car: They just won't work right without proper maintenance.

In a car, the oil needs to be changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. It needs tune-ups, tire rotations, fresh fluids and other work that prevents mechanical breakdown. The body also needs such care: exercise, proper eating habits and regular checkups with a doctor.

But many people only consider their personal ""mechanics" to be dentists and doctors. Not everyone considers a specialist such as a chiropractor to be central to physical well-being. Dr. Steven Clarke, president of the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors, believes that is the case. And like our vehicles, without proper care, we can fall apart.

"Our bodies like the car: You can't race that engine without the car eventually breaking down. It needs to have some idle time; it needs to be off for a bit," says Clarke, who regularly uses his association's publication, The New Jersey Chiropractor, to spread his message. "It's the same thing with the body: You need to recuperate. You need to have proper rest, proper nutrition, proper sleep. We (chiropractors) work with the body to keep it at its maximum potential — the best that it can be."

That message might be lost on a lot of people, but word slowly is spreading among the general population. However, chiropractic has become a way of life among those who count entertainment and sports as their means of making a living.

One of the most popular music groups right now, at least among the younger generation, is the Jonas Brothers. Since forming in 2005, the three brothers from Wyckoff have become a pop-music phenomenon, releasing four albums, touring all over the world and taking over The Disney Channel.

While much of their success is attributed to natural talent and smart managing by their father, Kevin Jonas Sr., the brothers — Kevin Jr., Joe and Nick — have been aided by employing good health practices. And for years now, that has meant regularly obtaining the services of their hometown chiropractor, Dr. Albert Wolyniec.
